Sometimes the things that hold us back need to be set down.
Each year in the fall we host a "Liturgy of Fire." It is mostly a just a big fall bonfire. We provide a big fire. What you do with it is up to you. If you want hotdogs, marshmallows, tasty beverages - whatever - bring it with you and maybe some to share. That's the big picture.
As part of the night, we also have time of reflection. Sometimes the things that hold us back need to be set down. It’s tempting to let painful actions, events, and losses have a leading role in our daily narrative. We mentally relive them and experience the pain over and over, day after day. They become a weight keeping us keeps us stuck in pain and regret and not free to live and love and move now, today in this moment.
We don’t have to live this way. Freedom is possible, but we must let go of all the old baggage and clutter so we can make space for the joy and laughter and love and life to return.
Brandon will lead an invitation to "release" those things that need to be set down for you to move forward. When invited, you can throw whatever it is that represents that heaviness for you. In the past, people put pieces of paper in and one person dumped in a suitcase. Nobody is keeping records and you don't have to share it, you can just throw it into the fire.
Then we will hang out and enjoy fire and friendship and the crisp fall night.
