What is a House Church?

When we strip away the program and flash, we rediscover Church as shared meals, honest conversations, and being together. Each week we meet in houses around the area to share about life, drink coffee, eat together, and discuss our journey to experience life through the lens of Jesus' love + teaching.

House Church is about being connected with other humans who care about you and your story. Together we explore the Bible's stories and Jesus life and teachings together. Your questions, frustrations, insights, and doubts are all welcome. At the end of the day, we are all on our own journey - we likely won't agree on exactly what the Bible says or exactly how to integrate what we learn into our lives, but we can always share a meal and encourage each other. Expect to talk, laugh, and cry together.

It's open to anyone who wants to come. Often first time visitors are surprised by how quickly they are drawn in and engaged.

What to expect at House Church

While each of our Houses is a little different, there are some common elements you can expect.

Potluck dinner fellowship

Shared Meals

We are not going to agree on everything, but we can all enjoy the food. Shared meals are an expression of our shared humanity:  We will disagree about faith, politics, social issues, but we can choose to sit together and share life. Our meals are potluck style. No need to be intimidated - donuts or chips are fine you're welcome with whatever you can bring (or nothing!)  - there is always enough.

Conversation

Everyone’s voice matters! Our "sermons" are collaborative  conversations where everyone can share their questions and observations. It may take a bit to get used to, but expect to be pleasantly surprised at how easy it is to participate.  We follow the Church calendar, so you can read ahead if you want. Our goal is real human connection where we can learn from each other and share our journey.

Communion

The earliest Christians celebrated the Eucharist/communion/Lord’s Supper around a table while eating a meal. During the meal, they remembered all that Jesus had taught them and done for them.

We celebrate this sacred meal because it reminds us that all of life is sacred - that Christ is present everywhere and in everyone.

Everyone is welcome to join in.

Have questions?

Wonderful - we have an extensive F.A.Q. page that likely has the answers you are looking for.

There are currently three Collective Houses. Two meet Sunday morning and one meets Sunday afternoon. All three are open and anyone is welcome to come and visit. If those times and locations don't work for you, please reach out and share your story with us - we are always looking to start new Houses - maybe there could be one in your area soon!
