What is a lectionary?

A lectionary is an arrangement of the Bible designed for preaching and worship that ensures a Church is exposed to the whole Bible. There are a few different options, but Collective follows the The Revised Common Lectionary. This is a very popular lectionary followed by thousands of Churches all around the world.

The RCL arranges the Bible into a three year teaching plan. Thematically it follows along with the Church calendar. Through these resources we are connected with other Churches around the world who are exploring the same passages and themes as us.

A big benefit of the lectionary is that there is no secret about what passages we will discuss each week. Everyone is explore the passages before hand and reflection on their meaning implications. There are even many commentaries and blogs that follow the lectionary and provide commentary on the readings each week. We have included one we reference often below.
